There are a number of international organisations that represent individuals and institutions involved in immunohaematology, blood banking and transfusion medicine. Broadly speaking they aim to: - Improve health through the advancement of knowledge surrounding immunohaematology, blood banking and transfusion medicine;
- Promote improved industry standards by developing and delivering programs and services to optimise patient and donor care and safety, as well as setting of guidelines and standards in key areas of transfusion practice to aid in accreditation;
- Promote interest in research into blood transfusion medicine by collaborating with international and regional societies; and
- Increase public awareness of the importance of voluntary blood donation.
